Left-Hand Drive GWM: Which Markets Can Register It

Every GWM unit we stock at GWM Export is left-hand drive (LHD). That is a direct result of our sourcing: all vehicles come from the China domestic market, where LHD is the standard. If your destination market drives on the left and registers right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles, a GWM from our yards will not be registrable there. This walkthrough gives you a step-by-step process to confirm LHD eligibility before you commit to a unit.

Inquiry: Tell Us Your Destination and Model

The first step is a WhatsApp message with your destination country and the GWM family you are considering. We hold stock across multiple families, including the Cannon pickup (210 units in stock, model years 2019–2026, reference FOB $7,500–$19,500) and the Good Cat EV (49 units in stock, model years 2021–2025, reference FOB $5,200–$11,500). Both are LHD. Tell us where the vehicle will be registered, and we will confirm whether that market accepts left-hand drive before we quote. If your market does not register LHD, we will say so immediately — no wasted quotes.

Quote: FOB Price and LHD Confirmation

Once we know your destination, we issue a quote with a reference FOB price, real mileage, and the model year. For example, a 2023 Cannon 2.0T Commercial Diesel 2WD Elite Long Bed Pickup with 27,000 km carries a reference FOB of $14,500. A 2019 Cannon 2.0T 4WD Elite Standard Cab Pickup with 80,000 km is referenced at $10,500. Every listing states steering as LHD. The quote also includes the export documents you will receive: commercial invoice, bill of lading, and certificate of origin. We are an independent exporter and not affiliated with GWM; we source from the China domestic market and verify mileage and registration date per unit.

Sample: Check Destination Registration Rules

Before you commit, verify your destination’s registration rules. In many markets across Russia/CIS, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, left-hand drive is the standard. Our shipping destinations include Russia, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, and Chile — all of which register LHD vehicles. However, some countries in these regions have specific import-age limits or steering restrictions. We provide the vehicle’s registration date and mileage so you can check against your local customs authority. If you need a sample of the documents that travel with the car, we can share redacted versions of the invoice, B/L, and COO so your broker can confirm they meet destination requirements.

Production: Prepare the Unit for Export

Once you confirm the order, we prepare the unit at one of our Chinese yards — Tianjin or Guangzhou. The vehicle is cleaned, inspected, and staged for shipping. We do not modify the steering or convert LHD to RHD. The car leaves China exactly as it was sourced from the domestic market. At this stage, you receive the vehicle identification number and final photos. If your destination requires a pre-shipment inspection (PSI), we coordinate with the inspection agency. Note that some markets require the COO to be stamped by China Customs or a chamber of commerce; we handle that as part of the export file.

QC: Verify Documents and Vehicle Condition

Quality control happens before the vehicle leaves the yard. We check that the odometer reading matches the listing, that the model year is correct, and that the photos reflect the actual unit. You receive a document pack: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading (once issued), and certificate of origin. For used vehicles, some destinations require an inspection certificate or a mileage declaration. We provide real mileage and registration date for every unit. If your customs broker needs additional documents, tell us before shipment — after the container or RoRo booking is confirmed, changes can delay departure.

Shipping: Choose RoRo or Container

We ship from Tianjin and Guangzhou. RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) is typically cheaper for running vehicles, while container shipping offers more protection and is often used for high-value or non-running units. Transit time depends on the route: for example, to UAE or Saudi Arabia, RoRo from Tianjin may take 18–25 days; to Nigeria or Kenya, 25–35 days; to Mexico or Chile, 30–45 days. These are indicative ranges — your booking confirmation will have exact schedules. The bill of lading is issued after the vessel departs. We share the B/L copy as soon as it is available so you can arrange customs clearance at destination.

After-Sales: Registration and Support

After the vehicle arrives, your local customs broker handles clearance and registration. Because the vehicle is LHD and sourced from China, you may need to provide the COO and invoice to prove origin. Some markets require an import license or a pre-registration inspection. We remain available on WhatsApp to answer document questions from your broker. If your destination rejects LHD registration after import, that is a risk you carry — which is why we confirm LHD eligibility before quoting. We do not offer returns or refunds for steering-related registration failures. Our role is to supply accurate vehicle data and export documents; the final registration decision rests with your local authority.

Check LHD Eligibility for Your Market

Use this checklist before you buy:

  • Confirm your country’s steering requirement. If it mandates RHD, do not import an LHD GWM.
  • Check age restrictions. Some markets limit used vehicle imports to a certain number of years.
  • Verify document requirements. Certificate of origin, commercial invoice, and bill of lading are standard; some markets add PSI or mileage certificates.
  • Ask us for the registration date and real mileage. We provide both for every listing.
  • Confirm shipping method. RoRo vs container affects cost and transit time.

We hold LHD stock across many GWM families. The Cannon pickup and Good Cat EV are two high-volume examples. If you are sourcing for Russia/CIS, the Middle East, Africa, or Latin America, LHD is likely acceptable — but always verify with your local customs authority. For a current list of LHD units, contact us on WhatsApp. We will send you real listings with FOB prices, mileage, and photos. GWM Export is an independent exporter, not affiliated with GWM. We deal in real vehicles, real prices, and real documents.
