If you are sourcing used GWM vehicles from China for Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, Chile, or nearby markets, the variables that decide your margin are consistent: FOB price, freight, import duty, and compliance. This guide compares five destination markets across cost, quality, lead time, and customization. GWM Export is an independent exporter, not affiliated with GWM. We hold stock at two Chinese yards — Tianjin and Guangzhou — and publish reference FOB prices, real mileage, and registration dates for every listing. Shipping destinations include Russia, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, and Chile. Use the table below to frame your sourcing decision, then read the deep dives for each market.

All GWM units we stock are left-hand drive (LHD). If your destination registers LHD — as Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, and Chile do for most used imports — you are aligned. If not, check before you commit. Our blog covers left-hand drive GWM market registration in detail.
Cost and duty: what actually lands
Start with the vehicle. The used GWM Tank family sits between $9,800 and $53,500 FOB depending on year, mileage, and trim. Real listings from our yard give you a calibration point:
- 2021 Tank 300 2.0T Off-Road Edition Conqueror SUV, 36,000 km, LHD, $16,500 FOB
- 2021 Tank 300 2.0T Off-Road Edition Challenger SUV, 83,000 km, LHD, $16,500 FOB
- 2024 Tank 300 2.0T Challenger SUV, 40,000 km, LHD, $25,500 FOB
- 2021 Tank 300 2.0T Cyber Tank SUV, 75,000 km, LHD, $17,000 FOB
- 2023 Tank 500 Hi4-T 2.0T Hi4-T SUV, 81,000 km, LHD, $26,000 FOB
- 2023 Tank 500 48V 3.0T Business Edition Realm-Building Edition 5-seater SUV, 48,000 km, LHD, $28,500 FOB
These are reference FOB prices. They exclude freight, insurance, and destination charges. To build a landed-cost estimate, add:
- Ocean freight: RoRo or container. RoRo is often cheaper per unit; container gives better protection. Our blog compares RoRo vs container with cost and schedule trade-offs.
- Marine insurance: typically 0.5–1.5% of CIF value.
- Destination customs duty and VAT: varies by country and by vehicle type. Pickups often face different duty than passenger cars — see our GWM Cannon pickup for Africa guide.
- Port handling and inland transport: depends on your destination port and final city.
- Broker fees and compliance: expect documentation and inspection costs.
Duty is the largest variable. Nigeria and Kenya apply higher effective rates on used passenger vehicles; Mexico and Chile are generally more predictable for used imports. Because rates change, confirm with your customs broker or the destination country customs authority. We do not quote duty as a fixed number — we give you the FOB and the documents, and you model the rest.
What you receive from us: invoice, bill of lading (B/L), certificate of origin (COO), and the supporting export documents. Our GWM export documents explained post covers each one and why your customs broker will ask for it. For Nigeria and Kenya, the COO and B/L are non-negotiable for clearing.
Quality and verification: mileage, condition, and photos
Used GWM export from China is not a blind purchase if you verify the listing. Every unit we list includes real mileage, registration date, LHD confirmation, and photos per listing. Example: a 2021 Tank 300 with 36,000 km is a different asset than the same year with 83,000 km, even at the same $16,500 FOB. The lower-mileage unit typically has more remaining service life and better resale in Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico, or Chile.
Before you commit, confirm on WhatsApp:
- Odometer reading and whether it is original
- Registration date and model year consistency
- Photos of interior, undercarriage, and any damage
- Service history if available
- Whether the unit is in Tianjin or Guangzhou, and which port it ships from
We hold stock at two Chinese yards. Which port a unit ships from affects transit time and route to your destination. Tianjin is often used for Africa and Middle East routes; Guangzhou can be competitive for Southeast Asia and some Latin American routes. Ask before you book.
For EV models such as the ORA Good Cat, quality checks include battery health and charging compatibility. Our exporting the GWM ORA Good Cat EV guide covers range, charging, and EV-specific import rules. Mexico and Chile have different EV import rules — verify before you buy.
Model choice affects quality perception. The Haval H6 is a high-volume family SUV; the Tank 300 is a body-on-frame off-roader. Our Haval H6 vs Tank 300 comparison covers price, running cost, and destination fit. In Nigeria and Kenya, the Tank 300 and Cannon pickup are common workhorses. In Mexico and Chile, the Haval H6 and ORA Good Cat have urban appeal.
Lead time and logistics: from yard to port
Lead time is driven by shipping method, route, and port. From Tianjin or Guangzhou:
- Nigeria: RoRo or container, typically 30–45 days to Lagos.
- Kenya: RoRo or container, typically 30–45 days to Mombasa.
- Mexico: container preferred, typically 40–55 days to Veracruz or Manzanillo.
- Chile: RoRo or container, typically 45–60 days to San Antonio or Valparaíso.
These are estimates. Actual transit depends on vessel schedule, port congestion, and documentation. RoRo is generally faster to load and cheaper; container offers better protection and can carry accessories. For high-value units like a 2024 Tank 300 at $25,500 FOB or a 2023 Tank 500 at $28,500 FOB, container may be worth the premium.
Customization is limited but practical: LHD is standard, and you can request accessories such as pickup bed liners or off-road tires where available. We do not modify vehicles. If you need fleet-specific configurations, confirm before purchase.
Who should pick what
- Nigeria: Pick the Tank 300 or Cannon pickup if you need ground clearance and parts availability. Budget for higher duty and confirm used vehicle age limits. The 2021 Tank 300 at $16,500 FOB is a common entry point.
- Kenya: Similar to Nigeria, but excise is based on engine size and age. The Haval H6 and Tank 300 are practical. Verify LHD registration and COO requirements.
- Mexico: Used vehicle restrictions and permits apply. Container shipping is preferred. Consider the Haval H6 or ORA Good Cat for urban use; verify EV import rules.
- Chile: Lower duty and used imports allowed with limits. The Tank 300 and Cannon are strong for off-road and utility. Pacific route adds transit time; plan 45–60 days.
